Removing Amazon links |

Unless Amazon.com changes their new bigoted policy, I will remove the Amazon links from my site. What alternative online sellers can you recommend in the US
and UK?
Thanks, Allen |

What bigoted policy are you referring to?
I've answered my own question. Oy, this is abysmal: http://booksquare.com/ope...g-recent-policy-changes/ There's always Borders, Barnes & Noble, Powell's Books, Books a Million, etc.

I concur with Maria's Powell's Books suggestion (rock on, Maria). I live near Powell's in Portland.

Here's a more reasonable explanation of what happened with Amazon, although they're not entirely out of the dog house if they have a system that
allowed this to happen:

I'd suggest www.bookdepository.co.uk/ or www.bookdepository.com they are often cheaper than Amazon anyway if you factor in the free shipping. Apparently this 'glitch' is also now affecting some books on disabilities as well which has been less widely reported. If I worked for Amazon I'd be expecting fireworks tomorrow! |

I think it's also affected books that are feminist. They need to do something fast or they're going to lose customers like crazy.

It's hard to say if the UK has been affected. Search results are inconsistent. I looked up a couple of lesbian romances which have no graphic sexual
content and they were not ranked. Well of Loneliness was ranked but not in the U.S. although the Kindle edition is ranked. Maurice by E.M. Forster is ranked in
both the U.S. and UK. Another lesbian novel The Price of Salt by Patricia Highsmith is ranked in the U.S. but not the UK.
None of these books has graphic sexual content so it's hard to understand why they were de-ranked for adult content while graphic heterosexual books remain ranked. It's probably a flaw in the system that if enough people tag these books for adult content they will be de-ranked. It's not that you can't find them if you're looking for them specifically but they won't show up as relevant when you're searching for similar materials, or something like that. I just checked Heather Has Two Mommies and Brokeback Mountain which were supposedly de-ranked in the U.S. are now back in the running. In the UK, however, Heather has been de-ranked while Brokeback Mountain has not. None of this makes any sense.

A bit more on the #amazonfail saga, they have apologised (for making themselves look stupid) and appear to be taking the time honoured way out of any
embarassing situation, which is to blame the French! http://blog.seattlepi.com/amazon/archives/166329.asp?source=mypi

Another possibility is that Amazon has been hacked:
http://valleywag.gawker.c...-amazons-big-gay-outrage but others are more skeptical: http://www.nytimes.com/20...amp;sq=levick&st=cse To be honest, the more I read about this, the more I think it's been blown way out of the proportion. I'll reserve further judgment until this has settled down.
