Most students and fans of the Robin Hood legend are blinkered by rose-tinted spectacles. The stereotypical image of Robin dominates their mind-set and they
find it difficult to view him as being anything else than the romantic folk-hero figure. Moreover, they find any alternative concept hard to accept if it does
not embellish or 'dovetail' with their 'take' on the legend , irrespective of the fact that the romantic folk-hero figure is undoubtedly
contrived.

i dont agree with that. after watching prince of theives and the re-runs of ROS i started out finding more about the legend which led me to the historical
points of veiw and ballads etc... and i find the whole thing much more intreging than the romantic stories of legend. did he didnt he etc. much more
interesting than anything hollywood could come up with.

I also don't agree that students and fans of Robin Hood view the legend through "rose colored spectacles". That is a bit unfair to assume.
Sure, Robin Hood is fascinating, and admired. Most people, after all, love a story of a person "rising against" corrupt authority. But when students and fans of the Robin Hood legend read the ballads, it is quickly understood that there is a dark side to Robin Hood (such as Robin Hood violently killing and then beheading Guy of Gisbourne). However, the fact that Robin Hood was flawed and made mistakes makes him all the more believable as a "wolfshead" who truly existed, and not just a fabrication.
