I work in a library, and today was a very slow day, so in my free time, I researched some historical documents on Sherwood, OR.
I found some pretty interesting information: It appears that Sherwood, OR. is a sister city of Nottingham, England.
In a photograph dated in 1957, Sherwood mayor N.L. Van Dolah presented a plaque of the Robin Hood festival to William A. Withear of Harlingtom-Hayes, England,
who then took the plaque to the Lord Mayor of Nottingham as a coat of arms for the International Archery Competition to be staged July 19th, which is held
between teams in Nottingham and Sherwood, OR.
Sherwood's archery team is the "Yeoman of Sherwood Archery Club", and they play against Nottingham's bowmen of the "Nottinghamshire
County Archery Society".
It is pretty interesting that Sherwood, OR. still has the International Archery Tournament, where Sherwood OR. competes against Nottingham's archers!
This is all pretty awesome to me, as I live near Sherwood! Perhaps I should grab my bow and join along, and you folks in Nottingham should join along! ![]()
