Graham, just a couple of quick suggestions. 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves,' Will Scarlet reveals himself as Robin's brother. I believe that was Scarlet's reason for betraying Robin to the Sheriff. Something along the lines of, "You were always our mother's favourite, spoilt brat who ran away.............."

But in the ballad ,"Robin Hood and Will Scarlet, Scarlet is shown to be Robin's cousin: 'And for to seek an uncle of mine,' (said Will)
Some call him Robin Hood.'

Although I understand cousins in those times were not neccessarily uncle and brothers or sisters relatives; it was used as a loose term for friend, like mate or pal.

In the latest series of Robin Hood on T.V. - and don't read any further if you have not yet seen it - we have the ridiculous plot that Guy of Gisborne is Robin's 'brother.' And a totally new character has been added to the story in the shape of Robin Hood's half-brother, Archer.

Graham, you pays yer money, you takes your chance, but if it was me I would suggest to your young fan that Will scarlet was Robin Hood's brother.

Gisborne seems to fit in with
