The mug had Sherwood Forest in big letters on the side, but below this it said, Oregon USA. Lady archer and any other of our American Robin Hood enthusiasts, do you happen to know any more details of this Sherwood Forest. Friar Tuck said that there used to be quite a rivalry with another Sherwoods, USA. Any info please? Robert H

It is a small and beautiful town, and is entirely Robin Hood-based! There is a Robin Hood theatre, and a Nottingham restaurant. If any of you visit Oregon, I'd be more than happy to drive you out there. I' mactually planning on moving there eventually, and am thinking of all kinds of business ideas - such as launching my own Robin Hood restaurant/theatre pub, lol. As Maria mentioned, there is a Robin Hood festival in Sherwood, OR every summer. For the high school, a "maid marian" is crowned every year. It is really cute. Aren't we fortunate Lady archer, you twenty minutes from Sherwood and me twenty minutes from Sherwood Forest. Sherwood looks a beautiful place, and you never know, one day we might come a'calling. .The old Nottingham Robin Hood Society went and Friar Tuck said they had a great time. I wish you well with your plans - they sound wonderful.

Posts: 111 May 12 08 3:45 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The rivalry with another Sherwood Forest in the USA, would that be the one in California in the suburbs of LA? I think this one took it's name because it was the location used by Douglas Fairbanks snr for his 1922 film. If I remember correctly, there is also a Sherwood lake. I always think that the loactions used for the 1238 Flynn film and the 1945 Bandits and 1950 Rogues look so nice. I suppose it is the nice weather that California gets, the old evergreen oak forest look really nice. I wonder why the makers of the 1938 film went up to rainy Chici Park in Sep 1937 and then got delayed by rain, when they had such nice locations right next door?

Posts: 2 Mar 6 09 6:18 AM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	And right smack inbetween the two Sherwoods on the Left Coast is Sherwood Mobile Home Park in Salinas County (where John Steinbeck grew up), outside of Gilroy (home of the Gilroy Garlic Festicva)l, a lovely little place to retire with irrigated creeks and a fountain center piece and "street" names like Nottingham, Kirklees, Marion and Scarlett. Least depressing gated community/old folks home/trailor park I've ever cruised around.
