I disagree completely. One of the problems with Kingdom of Heaven was Bloom as the lead, he was totally unconvincing as a blacksmith who becomes a Crusading
knight - a blacksmith, for Heaven's sake? The guy's built like a stick insect. He lacks conviction and charisma and is far too pretty for my image of
Robin Hood. I think he would be bland at best in the role.

Look at Bloom in this photo:
Doesn't he just look like a Robin Hood? He actually looks like Greg Hildebrandt's artistic illustration of Robin Hood: http://www.spiderwebart.com/productsd.asp?snob=102221 Stick insect!? I think Robin Hood would be very lean, eating venison and running around in Sherwood forest...

Depends on your image of Robin Hood. Nobody's going to beat Errol Flynn as the 'romanticised' version of RH, especially not the gormless wonder
Orlando.
My own preference would be for someone who could actually convince as a rough medieval outlaw: someone like Christian Bale. |

I agree with you in regards to Errol Flynn; he is Robin Hood personified. I also agree in regards to Bale, who is an extremely talented actor. I would love to
see him assume the role as RH; he'd carry it nicely.
Maria mentioned Heath Ledger as Robin Hood. I agree that Ledger would have made a great Robin. So sad that he passed. |

I agree Orlando certainly looks the part and though I don't think he'd make the best Robin Hood there is no need to insult the poor guy. He may be
dyslexic but that doesn't make him gormless. Do I detect a certain jealousy? He is absolutely gorgeous.

I think one thing we must keep in mind is that Robin will be the bad guy in Nottingham, so the actor playing the role will need to have a slightly
slimy edge to him, and I don't see this in Bloom.
The Robin for this film will need to combine charisma-in order to command the loyalty of his gang and of the common people-while remaining a true criminal. I do think Christian Bale could pull this off.

has the face of a cad. No offense, but I think this would definitely help him in this version of Robin Hood.

I didn't have the slightest clue that Orlando Bloom was dyslexic, and frankly I don't care. I just really don't rate him as an actor, nor
understand why Robin Hood has to be portrayed as 'gorgeous'. And I'm not jealous of him (Orlando Bloom, not Robin Hood) either. Is RH going to be
an out and out 'villain' in ths film? The way I understand it his character is going to be ambiguous rather than bad.

Enough with the good looks already! This guy is supposed to be a rough-arsed medieval brigand, not John Travolta! Sheesh.

John Travolta? *shudders*
RobeH, I don't understand why it seems impossible to you that Robin Hood was handsome. Let's face it, English men are g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s. Michael Praed was an ideal Robin Hood, and well, he is definitely easy on the eyes. *ducks* As far as Robin Hood being the "antagonist" in this movie, I agree that is supposed to be ambiguous. The story will be told from the Sheriff's point of view, but that doesn't make the Sheriff right, or the good guy, either. |

I don't think its impossible, just not particularly important. And casting some dreamboat tends, in my opinion, to detract from the more vital themes in
the story: fighting against injustice etc. Unless you make it into a cartoon in which everything is in glorious Technicolour i.e. the Errol Flynn movie.
But as I said, that isn't going to be bettered, so something else needs to be tried. Other than an elderly Sean Connery, has a plain or downright ugly actor ever been cast as RH? |

Lady Archer, if it's any consolation to you, Christian Bale is Welsh-born of English parents.

The only real objection to Christian Bale as Robin Hood in this film, is that he has literally been everywhere lately. He's Batman, he'll be John
Connor in the upcoming Terminator... why not have someone else shine as Robin Hood? Orlando Bloom would be perfect.
