The Sheriff of Nottingham leading up to and around the siege of Nottingham castle in March 1194 is a very interesting Sheriff indeed. He was a supporter of Prince John and held out in Nottingham castle against Richard before finally surrendering with his brothers.
I had actually wondered if Robert de Kyme could have been Ralph Murdac's man, the sheriff's man who rebelled against him. Because of the magister though, and the Kyme links, I think it is surely got to be Ralf de Kyme. Rob, did the Kyme family have any allegiances to the Murdac family, Ralph Murdac that you know of?
Ralph Murdac is a very interesting man though, actually a very good contender for the image that we have of the Sheriff of Nottingham in the RH tales.
