Posts: 323 (04/11/08 02:06:11) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None There are many Robin Hood paintings I love (many can be found at art.com), but in particular I am a fan of Greg Hildebrandt's Robin Hood art, found here: www.spiderwebart.com "He Clapsed the Dainty Page Close" -- based on the ballad "Robin and Marian", is my ultimate favorite -- and is seen as my avatar. The painting is an extremely romantic piece; one can feel the passion between Robin and Marian, and imagine the birds chirping in Sherwood forest. Hildebrandt's work is truly exquisite. Does anyone have a favorite Robin Hood-oriented painting?

Posts: 99 (04/11/08 06:06:14) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Some years ago an American Robin Hood enthusiast, Mark Warren, came to Nottingham and I showed him around the local sites associated with the legend. On leaving he gave me a poster of Robin Hood by N.C.Wyth. It is an illustration from the book, 'Robin Hood' by Paul Creswick. I love it: it is dark and brooding, with Robin Hood as I imagine him to have looked like. Daniel Maclise's, "Robin Hood Entertaining Richard the Lionheart in Sherwood Forest." is also a favourite of mine. Doubt anyone remembers me, but this subject wasn't something I couldn't pass up as it combines two things I love. The first Robin Hood book I read was a first edition copy of "Robin Hood" by J. Walker McSpadden. Haven't bought the version with art by Greg Hildebrandt as I'm saddened the book is abridged. I discovered N.C. Wyeth in high school and fell in love with this Robin Hood right away. This is my favorite of his: http://www.boldoutlaw.com/images/wyeth1.jpg I also love Howard Pyle's illustrations. Seems blasphemous that so many editions of "The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood" use somebody else's illustrations! I love this painting, "Robin Hood and Maid Marian" by Wyeth: I found these neat Robin Hood paintings online, but the artist is unknown: "Nuns caring for Robin Hood": "Robin and Marian": I also have my own Robin and Marian painting that I am slowly working on... It includes illustrations from various artists including N. C. Wyeth, Walter Crane, Howard Pyle and many others. The text is by E. Charles Vivian. One illustration in particular which I like is on page 143 by Italian artist Francesco Hayez. The acknowledgments page refers to it as Maid Marian's Kiss but online it's only referred to it as The Kiss, so I'm not sure if it's originally a Robin Hood illustration even if it fits in rather nicely with this collection.

Go to this link: http://www.amazon.com/Robin-Hood-Illustrated-Charles-Vivian/dp/0811833992/ref=ed_oe_h and click on Used and New. Any merchant with high ratings, at least 95 percent or over, will be ok and I would go with either New or Like New and you'll be fine. Also read their descriptions and see what you can live with. Good luck.
