There have been a number of threads on this board along the lines of 'who would you like to play Robin in a new film?' or something similarly hypothetical but it struck me the other day that we can also put this in the past tense and ask 'who would you have liked to see play Robin in an old film?' And then I had a sudden revelation that I would have really, really liked to see the 'Carry On' version.
Jim Dale as Robin, Sid James as Little John, Charles Hawtrey as Much, Kenneth Williams as Prince John, Peter Gilmore as Guy of Guisbourne, Joan Simms as Queen Eleanor, Amanda Barrie as Marion and Barbara Windsor as Bess her maid. Preferably made just after 'Carry on Cleo'. It would have been a classic. In fact I got so excited about it that I started to write the screenplay.
Apologies to those trans-Atlantic boarders for whom the 'Carry Ons' don't carry the same cultural resonance but maybe you have a cast of your own you could suggest?
