Men in Tights, was very entertaining, and the English actor who played Robin really looked the part, I thought.

That was Cary Elwes. ("Unlike other Robin Hoods, I can speak with an English accent!")

As Robin Hood films go, the one with Patrick Bergin was, in my opinion, one of the best. The period, (not Richard/John but Edward) the plausibility of the story/legend, and the rebirth/renewal concept at the end were first class.
Of course, Errol Flynn (You speak treason! Fluently!) is a classic film, but is too 'hollywood'.

But actually, Patrick Bergin, despite being Irish and not English, seemed to make a credible Robin Hood to me... and Errol Flynn was just fantastic...!

Might as well be Michael Jackson, for all the credibility all the other people who have played Robin have brought to the legend, apart from Sean Connery that is.

It was a joke, WoodsyLady! I'd never let Tim Burton get his hands on Robin Hood! Everyone in black with weird eye makeup-wait a minute! I think I just described Guy of Gisbourne in the current BBC series!

Johnny sans Tim. I mean they work fine together but I'm not sure that this is Burton's type of material.

well since were all big fans of Orlando i'm gonna have to say my top pick would be a Vigo Mortenisn a.k.a Aragorn because all the films ive seen him in give me the impression he could be a good Robin Hood (Just give him a nice little haircut and put him in tights lol)

I actually like Costner's Robin Hood way better than Jonas Armstrong's Robin. Just my opinion, though. Anyone who knows me around here are well aware that I will always defend Costner and the RHPOT film!

Nonetheless, I second Bob's comment there. Errol Flynn was just... awesome as our archer hero.

Still, I can easily picture Orlando Bloom as Robin Hood. I don't...

Thanks for mentioning Edward Woodward's singing. Few people are aware of his lovely voice, and most don't know he sang "Soldiers of the Queen" under the closing credits of Breaker Morant. For me, that was like an extra added bonus in a fine film.

Sorry to come late to the discussion, I've not posted here for a while but I thought I'd chip in with my groat's worth seeing as how the sainted Mr Woodward's name was mentioned. He has indeed played Robin, although not on screen, it was in the London Palladium's 'Babes in the Wood' panto in about 1974 (I'm dating myself here!)and very good he was too, excellent singing voice and some nifty on-stage archery. After so many movies made on our archer, including but not limited to Errol Flynn in "The Adventures of Robin Hood", Patrick Bergin all wild-eyed in 1990's "Robin Hood", and Kevin Costner (love or hate his performance), over the years I've nontheless been noting the strong points Robin Hood films.
